The best way of helping Kirkby Lonsdale First Responders is by joining us!  

We’re a friendly group with people from all walks of life – and we’re always delighted to welcome new members. You’ll be given all the training you need and can expect plenty of support from your team along the way. You’ll need to be at least 18 years old, physically fit (though we’re not expecting elite-athlete standard!) and will be required to complete an application for enhanced level Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) clearance. Most importantly, you’ll be caring, discreet and compassionate, with a genuine desire to help others in your community.

Initial training sessions will cover Basic Life Support (BLS) skills and the delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as well as the use of oxygen and the Automated Electronic Defibrillator (AED). Responders continue to receive ongoing training throughout, including annual reassessments. But we also have plenty of gatherings where teams come together to socialise and have fun!

Currently in Kirkby Lonsdale, eight teams of Responders operate on a 24-day rota, providing round-the-clock cover over a period of three days. Because there are several members in a team, individual commitments can generally be accommodated – you’ll simply collect a pager on the first day of cover and carry on as normal. Team leaders co-ordinate every on-call period, taking into account each member’s availability. Some members are only available during the day, others at night – it’s usually possible to fit your First Responders’ commitment around your regular routine without too much inconvenience.
