This year, Kirkby Lonsdale First Responders will be celebrating their 10th anniversary. To mark the occasion, we hope to run a few events, starting with a Murder Mystery Evening at The Institute on Saturday 9th April, kicking off at 7pm. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by professional acting group, Murder Mystery UK, who will guide budding sleuths through the twists and turns of an exciting investigation in a bid to unveil the villain of the piece. Tickets are priced at just £15 per head, to include a delicious hot supper, and a bar will be available. Why not get together with a group of friends to solve a mystery and enjoy a great night out, while supporting the work of your local First Responders? First Aid Training

In response to interest from several responders, we are running a First Aid training course at Barbon Village Hall on Sun 20th Feb. The HSE-approved ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ course will be led by Andrew Dickinson at Kentdale First Aid Training and tailored to complement our existing knowledge as responders. It will improve your competency as a responder, but is not an NWAS requirement, so will not attract additional funding and will need to be paid for by participants. The course will run from 9.30am till 4.30pm and costs £20 per person. Refreshments, a light lunch, course handbook and certification are all included. The day is restricted to a maximum of 16 applicants and places will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Debbie on 71955 for more information.

Summer Ball

Plans are underway for a spectacular Kirkby Lonsdale Summer Ball to be held this August. A number of local groups and charities are involved in its organisation, including First Responders. Details are still being finalised, but as soon as we have the complete picture, we’ll post all the relevant info here on the website.

Calling all amateur sleuths!

We’re hoping to organise a Murder Mystery Event in March this year, just for a bit of fun. The event will be staged using a professional group of actors who specialise in creating brilliant evenings of dinner and detection. We’ll post the date and details, including venue, menu and pricing as soon as we have them – so gather a group of like-minded pals together and lets make it an evening to remember! Group Meeting

Just to remind everyone that our first group meeting of the year will take place at the Methodist Hall on Weds 26th Jan at 7.30pm. We will be introducing the new defibrillators and maps, as well as discussing ideas for the 2011 training programme. Hope to see everyone there!

A Christmas Cracker

The evening of of Tues 14th Dec saw The Pheasant Inn host the last quiz of the year in support of First Responders. The quiz had a suitably festive theme and attracted plenty of teams keen to pit their wits against each other. The entertainment was interrupted only by a welcome visit from Casterton Carol singers on their annual tour of the village! Quizzers can relax over the Christmas break, before returning to the fray on Tues 4th Jan at 8pm. KL First Responders would like to extend most sincere thanks to Geoff and Lesley for tirelessly organising the quiz and donating the proceeds so generously to support the group’s work – the 2010 total of £1000 is absolutely outstanding!

Responders benefit from quiz donation

Quiz masters Geoff and Lesley Buswell presented KL First Responders with a cheque for £600 at their quiz night on 19th October, bringing their total donations to an amazing £1000, which can be put towards the acquisition of new life-saving equipment in the local area. The Responders fielded a team of four in the Tuesday quiz and came a respectable third against some fierce competition! Geoff and Lesley host the quiz every fortnight and are always on the look out for new teams to join them.

If you’d like to have a fun and informative night out, as well as supporting your local Responders, the next quiz nights are on Tues 2nd Nov, Tues 16th Nov, Tues 30th Nov and Tues 14th Dec (Christmas Quiz).

Training Dates

Training for the new group of first responders is set to begin, with the first session taking place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 13^th October at Barbon Village Hall. The training will comprise two-hour weekly sessions covering a nine-week period, culminating with the paramedic assessment on the 10^th week. During that time references and CRB checks will be completed and the informal chat from an NWAS representative will be arranged. The sensitive and confidential side of being a responder is dealt with at the end of training.

Pheasant Inn Quiz Night - Fund Raiser

We are delighted that Lesley and Geoff Buswell of the Pheasant Inn at Casterton are continuing to host their highly successful Quiz Nights and are especially grateful to them for donating the proceeds - which have already amounted to £1000 - to KL First Responders! The quiz takes place fortnightly on Tuesdays, beginning at 8pm. Dates are in the calendar, so why not get a team together and join in?
